The Psychology of Goals

Book Review: The Psychology of Goals

The Psychology of Goals is a fascinating and informative book that thoroughly explores the intricacies of human goal setting and achievement. Written by two accomplished psychologists, Gordon B. Moskowitz and Heidi Grant, this book delves into the psychology behind setting and achieving goals, providing readers with valuable insights and practical advice.

One of the most impressive aspects of this book is its comprehensive coverage of the topic. From discussing the different types of goals we set to explaining the reasons why some people are more successful than others, Moskowitz and Grant leave no stone unturned when it comes to understanding human motivation.

One thing that really resonated with me was the authors’ emphasis on creating “SMART” goals – those that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. While this may seem like common sense to some, I found it incredibly helpful to have these criteria laid out so clearly. I also appreciated the many real-world examples provided throughout the book, which help illustrate how these concepts can be applied in practical settings.

That being said, there were a few areas where I felt The Psychology of Goals could have been stronger. The book is quite lengthy at 548 pages, which can make it feel a bit overwhelming at times. Additionally, while I appreciated the authors’ meticulous approach to exploring every aspect of goal-setting psychology, some readers may find certain sections a bit dry or technical.

Despite these minor criticisms though, I would highly recommend The Psychology of Goals to anyone interested in achieving their own objectives or helping others do so. Whether you’re a student trying to improve your grades or an executive looking to boost your company’s performance metrics – this book has something valuable for everyone. Overall score: 9/10
