Book Review: Practice Theory Perspectives on Pedagogy and Education

As someone who has been involved in education for several years, I was eager to pick up this book and delve into the theory behind pedagogy and education. Practice Theory Perspectives on Pedagogy and Education, written by Peter Grootenboer, Christine Edwards-Groves, and Sarojni Choy, is a thought-provoking read that presents a much-needed analysis of how practice theory can be used to understand education.

One of the things I appreciated about this book was how it presented practical examples of how practice theory could be applied in education. The authors use a range of case studies to demonstrate how teachers can adopt different approaches depending on how they approach their role as educators. This means that the book is useful not just for academics but also for teachers in the classroom who are looking for new ways to improve their practice.

In addition to presenting the practical applications of practice theory, Practice Theory Perspectives on Pedagogy and Education also delves into the theoretical framework surrounding pedagogy. The book provides an overview of key theories such as Bourdieu’s habitus and Giddens’ structuration, which helps readers understand how these theories can be applied in educational settings.
