Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology

Book Review: Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology

As a book critic, it is my pleasure to review the Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology, authored by C.R. Snyder and Shane J. Lopez and published by Oxford University Press in 2009. This handbook, with its magnificent 709-page count, has left me feeling inspired and motivated to practice positivity in all aspects of my life.

The authors have done an excellent job of presenting the topic of positive psychology in a clear and organized manner. The book is divided into different sections which make it easy for readers to navigate their way through the various topics covered. From the history and foundations of positive psychology to its practical applications in various fields such as health, education, and work settings, this handbook provides comprehensive coverage of the subject.

One aspect that really resonated with me was how the authors stressed the importance of positivity in everyday life. They emphasize that being positive does not mean ignoring negative experiences or emotions but rather learning to cultivate greater resilience and adaptive coping strategies to overcome challenges.

While reading this handbook, I felt compelled to reflect on my own life experiences and consider how I could incorporate more positivity into my day-to-day routine. The authors’ insights have helped me recognize how small changes can make a big difference in enhancing well-being.

The only criticism I would have about this book is that it may be too dense for some readers who are unfamiliar with academic writing or not interested in psychological research. It can be quite technical at times but overall an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning more about positive psychology.

In conclusion, I highly recommend the Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology to anyone looking for an inspiring guide on how to live a more positive and fulfilling life. A solid score from me!

Description : In the short time since the publication of the Handbook of Positive Psychology esearch results on the psychology of human strengths have proliferated. However, no major volume has documented the methods and theory used to achieve these results. Oxford Handbook of Methods in Positive Psychology fills this need, providing a broad overview of diverse contemporary methods in positive psychology. With contributions from both leading scholars and promising young investigators, the handbook serves to illuminate and, at times, challenge traditional approaches. Incorporating multiple levels of analysis, from biology to culture, the contributors present state-of-the art techniques, including those for estimating variability and change at the level of the individual, identifying reliability of measurements within and across individuals, and separating individual differences in growth from aspects of phenomena that exhibit shorter-term variability over time. The volume covers such topics as wisdom, health, hope, resilience, religion, relationships, emotions, well-being, character strengths, and laughter. It enhances our understanding of the balance between human deficits and strengths and demonstrates their connections to other problems. Oxford Handbook of Methods in Positive Psychology will be the essential reference for methods in positive psychology....
